Some current & past Projects

Tohoku-Oki (2011-2013)

Video from Rolland & Bosser, 2012. The animation shows the deformations caused by the Tohoku earthquake (Mw 9.1, 11 March 2011 at 5:46:23). Arrows indicate horizontal displacements due to the earthquake, colours indicate vertical displacements. These results are based on the analysis of data from over 1,000 permanent Japanese GNSS stations from the GEONET network. The raw GNSS data were analysed in PPP using Gipsy-Oasis (JPL / NASA) for a time sampling of 1s. The aim of the project was to provide a new perspective on earthquake forecasting based on the unique data set of the Tohoku-Oki earthquake provided by Earth to Oceans and Space sensors.
