Mathilde, a PhD student in mechanical sciences

18 January 2024
Mathilde is a PhD student in mechanical sciences at ENSTA Bretagne / IRDL (Naval Group CIFRE* thesis). Her thesis aims to contribute to the development of new sizing methods for a new generation of marine propellers produced using arc-wire 3D printing.

These innovative arc-wire 3D printing processes can be used to produce large objects with complex geometries. The aim of this thesis is to develop mathematical models that take into account the specific features of this manufacturing process and ensure the service life of future marine propellers.

Her work involves setting up material tests to apply to the models. They are part of a larger research program: the Self Heating Industrial Chair, named after the technique used to rapidly predict the durability of materials and structures under cyclic stress (known as fatigue).

A graduate engineer from ENSTA Bretagne, Mathilde discovered the world of research through projects and exchanges. As part of her partnership with the Naval Group, Mathilde works at the intersection between the company and the research laboratory: a rich and stimulating environment.

* A CIFRE (Convention Industrielle de Formation par la REcherche - Industrial agreement for training through research) thesis is a thesis financed by a company. PhD students split their time between the company and the research laboratory.
