Marin sur son bateau mini 6.5

At the age of 21, he's preparing for a solo ocean race

Student Life
Marin, a first-year engineering student, is preparing to take part in the Mini-Transat 2025, a solo race from les Sables d’Olonne to the Caribbean via the Canaries, aboard a Mini 6.50 with no communication and no assistance!

As a keen sailor who has been sailing for 10 years, Marin's interest in ocean racing was inspired by watching skippers train off the coast of his native Concarneau. It's a discipline he's been pursuing for 3 years now, and one in which he'd like to invest even more time.

In particular, he took part in the Tour Voile 2023, a team race from Saint-Quay-Portrieux to La Rochelle, which he won and which enabled him to learn the ropes on the boat on which he hopes to eventually compete in the legendary Solitaire du Figaro race.

For the time being, his goal is to compete in the Mini-Transat 2025, a race that represents a key step towards a professional career.

His project began in 2021 with the buying of a boat. As the number of places is limited, a long period of preparation is required to hope to take part in the mini-transat, in particular to accumulate 1,500 miles during qualifying races and 1,000 miles outside the race itself.

To do so, Marin took part last summer in the Les Sables > Azores > Les Sables race, a solo loop in preparation for the Mini-Transat, thereby enabling him to obtain the required number of miles.

At present, Marin is busy preparing his boat and looking for partners to cover the substantial entry fees and investments needed to ensure the race goes well. This was a major challenge, carried out in parallel with his studies at ENSTA Bretagne. He is still deciding whether to major in naval architecture, hydrography or modeling of advanced materials.

We wish him all the best for the rest of his preparation and look forward to seeing him at the start of the race in September 2025!
