The best international teams come together
20 teams from Europe, Asia and America were in the running at the start of the competition. Twelve of them were selected to take part in the final, which took place near Marseille on July 4, 2024.
The aim? To design and manufacture a reliable, efficient, low-cost floating wind turbine structure, capable of operating under real-life weather conditions.
Each team had to comply with the constraints set by the FWC competition organizers (type of turbine used, hub height and water depth) and pass the various selection stages
- Abstract
- Report: 40 pages
- Final competition event
In all, it took almost a year and many hours of work to develop innovative, operational and effective technological solutions.
Victory!
Two main awards were presented by the challenge organizers: the award for the best written report and the award for the best structure.
The "Avel Vor" team, comprising students from the Expert in marine renewable energies specialized advanced Master of Science degree, won the award for best report.
The quality of their work was also recognized with 3 special awards:
- Best structural integrity
- Best Foundation & Mooring System
- "Low Carbon" Transport Method (Most Eco-Friendly)
For the team, the event was a particularly rewarding experience. It gave them the opportunity to develop their knowledge of floating wind turbines, their structures, their stability, etc. as well as to discuss ideas with experts in the field to devise innovative solutions.
The competition ended with a visit to France's first floating wind farm, "Provence open sea" (Provence Grand Large): all the participants were very impressed by the inspiring structures.
