For three years, Arquus and ENSTA Bretagne have been combining their expertise to develop hybrid solutions for future armored tanks through an academic partnership. In August 2024, the third edition of ENSTA Bretagne students’ End-of-Study Projects came to an end, with promising results for the future of military vehicles.

ENSTA Bretagne and Arquus have been building a solid partnership for three years. Their joint commitment to developing hybrid solutions for battle tanks has paved the way to substantial energy savings and performances that are as good as or better than those of current armored vehicles.

The progress made over the past three years is the fruit of collaboration within the joint lab THOR, inaugurated in May 2023, dedicated to the energy optimization of defensive ground vehicles. Set up by ENSTA Bretagne and Arquus, this unique lab pools joint efforts in a bid to develop hybrid solutions for heavy vehicles.

After months of design and development at Arquus, last August ENSTA Bretagne engineering students submitted ambitious work on fitting new engines in tanks and their transmission system, a vast study scope, to address the need to modernize military equipment.

ENSTA Bretagne and Arquus are continuing to cooperate through this comprehensive partnership. Young graduates from the school are hired at Arquus after their end-of-study internship. The close ties between the school and the company are also supported by the CEO of Arquus, Emmanuel Levacher, sponsor of the ENSTA Bretagne 2024 and 2025 cohorts. In addition to the THOR lab, new lines of enquiry are being explored and will further shore up this partnership.
